Everyday Problem Solvers

If you actually look, this blog was created on may/2011 but, until march/2012 nothing relevant was posted. Back then i wasnt commited and had no idea how hard it is to create and evolve actual textual ideas… im very good at this in a code level, but a text level i actually suck. i find it very hard to carry somthing to the very end.
I have one of those minds that are completaly obssessed about somthing or is ignoring it completally. Something like:My big problem here is that i switch very fast between obssessions… A week ago i was obssessed with the possibility of developing applications for Azure. A week before that i was thinking about a physics engine, and before that i was looking into developing a CUDA application… Point is: i have a real hard time focusing. This is why I need a job. A job kinda forces me into following something to the end. I really love discovering new stuff but i really think i need help in that area.
So when i came to start this blog i did because a good friend had started his, and i kinda like to write stuff… i enjoy teaching, and making presentations and most of all i love discussions. I love discussions so much that I often play the “devils advocate” part just to inflame the other part. Not as a troll would. I do it in a healthy way… i think so at least. So, for a week, or less, i really wrote stuff and edited and did the whoel 12 steps, and then schrodinger cat died (lol) and i forgot the blog… i forgot that i owned it…
About a week ago i read about how having a blog might help people that are hiring you discover more about you. So i decided to start writing again. But im being very real here… not soft corners… no more hiding (pls dont comment with “get out of the closet” jokes… its just idiot kind of jokes…)! And i actually fell good about this…
Im not doing this for comments, or popularity or to sell adds… or profit directaly from the blog (if someone wants to hire me because they see something in the blog, im not going to say no…). Im doing this because I want, because somehow i fell that the internet really gets me…HEHEHEHEHEE

Yesterday i attended a meeting in our new and improved meeting rooms in our new office. I have to say, it’s a beautiful room for 6, maybe 8 people, with a gorgeous white “plastic” (I really don’t know what material it was… felt like plastic..) table. Maybe it was acrylic.
Right at the beginning i started my notebook and, because i can’t get used to the touchpad, opened my Arc Mouse and the god damn pointer refuses to move. Easily solved problem, got a clean white paper and there you go, a new mouse pad… But it got me thinking what kind of person buys a meeting table for a IT company, in which only trackball mouse’s work? Forgivable. As the meeting progresses my battery runs-low, I excuse myself and go to my desk and grab my recharger. When I came back the big surprise revealed itself: There are no energy plugs in the room. I don’t mean there were no available plugs at the moment. I mean MeetingRoom.EnergyPlugs.Count = 0. It get worst, NONE of the rooms has. And that got me thinking what kind of IT enterprise has a meeting room without energy plugs? The designer of the meeting rooms FAILED miserably!!! Whoever approved the design was at least negligent…
This find got me noticing some other stuff around. Here, each desk is used by 2 developers, facing each other. Each one has a pc (I don’t dare to say a workstation… but that’s a topic for another post.) and of course a monitor. Every desk has 4 plugs, one for each pc and one for each monitor. So far so good… problem is that usually we bring our own notebooks or use the corporative notebook, and when the battery runs-low, guess what? No plugs… something gotta give… usually we choose to give up the pc… and plug the monitor in the notebook… but back to the point: FAIL!!! Once again: You can’t possibly have too much Energy plugs and coffee, especially in a Tech enterprise. Don’t be cheap…
Another tension point is the air-conditioning. Ours is Boolean oriented: either is off and the floor become an indoor Saara or its on frost-bite mode. Because we use “build-wise” A/C we can’t turn it on and off as necessary. Another FAIL. Who the hell can’t adjust the AC to a confortable 22º? It’s not Gama-Ray-In-Result-Of-Solar-Flare-Science…
I do have to say that there are various levels of incompetency. But whoever has the idea to place the developers right by where 3/4 of the entire office (developers account for the rest) passes by talking and chatting and in theirs phone calls and laughing, making “concentration” a memory of old-times and not the way-of-life of we, the developers, must have gotten a bloody trophy. I cant explain my disappointment with words… then to illustrate it choose this picture:

I’ve never posted nothing really serious on a blog… in my early years i had a “funny pics and jokes from the web” blog. It was a fun blog (at least my 5th grade classmates thought so…) but it had no original content… at the time i really didnt care about that, as long as Julia (my 5th grade sweetheart) kept commenting “how funny was that picture of a cat falling from the roof”… ahhh but things have changed since then… well… i still like lolcats but… i think you get what i mean… Still… today im a 23 years old Computer Science undergrad, already employed, with no girlfriend (at least not a stable one).
Some say im a relatively successful guy, others that im a geek… i relate to the second group… Im not a no-social-skills geek… im actually very social adaptable… i think theres only one group i dont think im cappable of “fitting in”: the “religious fanatics and preachers group”… for the record i do belive in the idea of “God”… i do belive that he exists… and i belive he created the big-bang and then “pushed the thing downhill” and now only watches… i go by House’s “If you talk to god, your religious. If god talks to you, your psychotic”. Back to social skills i consider myselft a geek because i truly rather discuss science, tech and philosophy related topics than sports, fashion & weather… but i need other girls to be happy i end up discussing them anyway… dispite that whenever possible i really stretch my “interestings” topics…
Enough rambling… As my first post in this blog i really would like to say, that dispite the fact that i live in Brazil, and never been to a english talking country, the primary language here will be english so i can reach a broader public range and, as some of you may notice, some sentences may “sound” a little unconventional, and thats because im optmizing so the google’s translation engine can translate “better”, for that i apologize. I also have no intention whatsoever to earn any kind of money with this blog… i didnt even set a donation page. If you want to contribute with money i ask you to donate it to science projects, i think that in the social projects theres alot of misappropriation, if you want to contribute with your time, pls refer to GitHub!
To finish i would like to thank you for being here and for your critics… im not going to say that theyre always helpfull, because some people just want to see the world burn, but i always appreciate feedback.
